mean people everywhere
There always seems to be a prejudice person everywhere I go. I'm not completely safe at College or in the general public or even at a church. I've had some bad experiences in the past mainly in college.
last year (2009), this one person who took dislike of me, for being mildly autistic, went around the campus and gossiped about me. as days passed, other college students began to act weird around me like I was some kind of plague. to make matters worse, this friend of mine knew a bunch of people who hated me just for being mildly autistic. they gave her an ultimatum that she'd better stop being my friend or they were going to not only shun her out, but also do vicious things to me. One even passed by me. she called me, but i ignored her. then she shouted and I accidentally gave in and turned around. then she said "F*** You!!" while giving me the middle finger and then walked away. I was hurt by what she did. I didn't even want to go to my class that day. Good news was that I had other friends who would stick up for me. more good news is that those mean people have since then gone off to other colleges, so I no longer have to deal with them.
In church, I tend to make these "finger movements" and noises. what I didn't realize was that other people were staring at me. I even overheard someone one mention to a friend/or family member that I should be locked away in a mental institution and that I had no business being in public. I was hurt. I no longer feel comfortable going to church by myself because of what I heard that day.
So far, I've had no problems with other people at the movies, in the mall/or department stores, at a restaurant, or other public places.
I just don't understand why autism, or Aspergers Syndrome is considered to be a bother to the General Public. they only want to "cure" autism just to make it vanish away from exsistance that way people would not have to deal. I find that to be very prejudice indeed. It makes me feel like I'm some kind of parasite on this earth. it's just plain wrong. I not only speak for myself, but I also speak for all the Americans young and old who are living with autism, or Asperger's Syndrome (as well as their families) and find this "Search for a Cure" to be an act of prejudice.
