My son was born on December 24th, 2002. He was 9 lbs 2 oz, 22 inches long with an apgar score of 9. A seemingly normal, healthy baby boy. He did not walk until he was 14 months old, and while I thouight that was a little odd, it didn't really worry me. What sent up the red flags was when, by 18 months old, he was not talking AT ALL!! My fears were relieved, when, one day I heard his father ask him if he wanted some milk, and my son echoed the question. Pretty soon he was repeating EVERYTHING he heard, but that was it. He wasn't making his own sentences. Everything he said was a repeat of whatever had been said to him. My mother is a kindergarten teacher and had mentioned to me that she had an autistic child in her class that did the same things as my son (Parroting and repetitive behaviors) and that I should probably get him evaluated. 6 months later we had our diagnosis.
