There is RDI program (Relationship develpment intervention) developed by Dr Gutstein, Texas. But the program is available in other state like Missouri where I live. It is a program to train the parent so parent can deal with their autistic kids. We are interested to send my son to a center where this therapy (school) is availble. But before that I would like to hear any other openion about this therapy from anybody out there. Please share ideas. Thanks.

I am not familiar w/this at all. Does your son have a therapist or mentor you could ask (or maybe teacher @ school)? Also if your area has a ASA chapter or a support group those are good resources for questions too.

    Good luck!

Yes, my husband and I attended a 4 day intensive RDI training by Dr. Gutstein some years ago.  The program is focused on working with families.  Therapists are trained and many communities will have a professional who is also RDI trained.  It may be a speech-language pathologist, special education teacher etc.  The training is quite extensive so the individual has many skills.  The program really focuses on remediating the areas of weakness in Autism especially the social skills.  I am not even going to begin to try to talk about the program here.  Dr. Gutstein has a fabulous website with many resources.  I think the program is sound and any training you can get for your family and your son with a RDI base will help build your ability to interact with one another and build his interaction skills at the same time.  I am a Speech-Language Pathologist who works with children with Autism and have a young adult daughter with Autism so I have looked into many ways of helping our kids.
